GED Decorative Application System

Double R Glass & Roofing Systems Ltd has recently taken delivery of a GED Decorative Application System, (DAS) enabling them to increase their output of leaded glass units.

The machine, one of only three in the UK, automatically applies lead strip to both sides of the glass, reducing the labour content significantly. A disk containing the design is inserted into the system’s computer and, within seconds, the system starts to apply the lead. Once one side is complete, an operative turns the glass over and the machine will then apply the second strip of lead accurately in line with the first side.

Commenting on the purchase, Double R’s managing director, Ian Sims, said, “Applying lead has, in the past, been a highly labour intensive operation and has often resulted in us having to make large overtime payments to ensure that we meet our customer’s requirements. The purchase of the DAS system has helped us to streamline this area of our operation, and we are confident this will result in a short pay-back period for the investment”.
